Welcome back to the gutsy chick podcast. I rebranded by the way. me too. I get to talk to more people. That's the beauty of, of rebranding instead of just focusing on athletes in spirit of an athlete podcast. Now I get to focus on high performers, which are female entrepreneurs, female executives and female athletes still in the mix. So Mama T, thank you so much for joining me on Gutsy Chick Podcast. Thanks so much for having me, Amanda. I'm so excited to be here. All right, so the audience knows who you are. You're a healer, an oracle, and a spiritual guide. All the woo! I'm so excited to talk about all the woo. Yes. my gosh. The woo, the intuition, the tapping in. Because really, as a high performer, you need to be able to trust yourself and be self-guided. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and that's our focus on this episode is intuition. And I love that you highlight Phoenix energy. So as an athlete, I was always tapping into that Phoenix energy. In fact, so much so that I wanted to do a tattoo down the entire side of a Phoenix, because that's, I feel like that's the energy that I constantly embody. So let's talk a little bit about intuition. What is intuition to you, Mama T? So intuition to me is just this like deep soul knowing. It's this nudge that pushes you forward that may or may not make any sort of logical sense. It's that, you know, that the eyes in the back of your head, like you just know, like the kids are doing something wrong or it's quiet. You just have this sixth sense that something's happening. That is... your intuition. Now, it's the mind that keeps us from whether or not we trust it and we act upon it. And I'm here to encourage you to actually take action from this intuitive space. my gosh. So developing intuition. Do you have some practice that you feel is like the go-to for women to really tap into their intuition and trust beyond the logical and beyond the, I'm not sure if I should listen to that moment. So one thing about intuition, it does show up differently for people. When I first started learning about it and starting to get into mastery of my own personal intuition, I would hear people say like, see this or I hear this external voice speaking to me and all of these different things. And so I started to make it mean something about me if I was having a different experience. For me, it feels like just a knowing. It's not outside of me, it's just me telling myself, like a higher version of myself, if you will, or like a future version of myself trying to say, like, give me a little heads up to pay attention to something and then I move from there. So one thing I would recommend is allowing yourself to get quiet, whether that's meditation, whether you go for a walk out in nature and maybe you don't even listen to anything, go for a drive and don't put any music on, just allowing yourself spaciousness. to be with yourself. And I love meditation, but I understand that some people get into their head about being able to get quiet for extended periods of time. And while I think it's a great practice, and I do think it's important to really allow yourself, even if it's just 30 seconds, to just breathe and come back to your breath. And that is where you're going to start to figure out and hear how... your intuition speaks to you or shows up for you. Some people see things or they have like, I don't there's all of our different senses like see, feel, hear, touch, even taste. I have a friend that actually tastes things. Like she'll be like, I can taste a rose quartz crystal. I gotta go get my crystal or something like that. All these different ways of sensing your intuition. so allowing yourself spaciousness to get silent with yourself and just be. We're a human being, right? So be with yourself, right? Instead of just doing things, be with yourself. And so you're allowing yourself to connect and hear how you speak to yourself. my gosh, okay. Why in the world would an executive or an athlete or a mom or even an entrepreneur need to be able to tap into their intuition? Because there is a limit. Like our mind, the mind, the strategy, there are limits to all of these things. The intuition is what takes you to the next level. When you hear about like multi-millionaires and it's like, well, just, I had this feeling that I need to go after something. Most of the time you listen to somebody's story, there is something illogical that happened so that they could take it to the next level. And that is following an intuitive hit. That is listening to yourself and getting outside of the box. That is where innovation is created. It's not just, okay, let me keep doing the same thing over and over and over again, because you're going to get the same result. We would be still driving like Model T cars if someone didn't follow some sort of intuitive hit to create something else. So that's why we need to use our intuition so we can continue to move forward and grow and expand. My brain immediately went to because engineer model tees were originally electric That is wild. I know, right? So who the heck? Why the heck? I mean, nevermind. Nevermind. That's so funny. I had no idea. Right? There's this huge picture of them all plugged in and I'm going, my gosh, how did we innovate in a totally different direction? I digress. All right, meditation. We have to talk about this because I was just in a Facebook thread where one of my high school friends has just started seeking knowledge from people who hate. meditation. And I love that you brought up meditation because I'm on that thread, I immediately go, okay, I'm not, I'm not your target because I love meditation. I started meditating in 2000. So it's been 25 years of meditating. And what I learned over that time is it's not about coming into quiet. Yeah, shut your mouth. Listen to something. that's your quiet but everybody seems to think that it's it's about quieting your mind that's a byproduct it's like being an entrepreneur entrepreneur right money is a byproduct of what you're doing right quieting your mind is a byproduct of meditation would you agree Yes. So it's just, for me, I don't know, like the meditative state, like I can feel it right now, right? I can just, it's like a little tingling in my body. just feels like, it's like, to me, I think of it as like dropping in. I'm just dropping in to my body. And you can even probably hear like a different tonality to my voice as I'm like really like falling into this space. So obviously I'm not being quiet, but I'm also not really thinking about what the next word is that's coming out of my mouth. I'm just allowing that spirit to just flow through me. And so that's for me, like that's what meditation feels like. So I can allow myself to be quiet and have movement. can, you know, go for a swim. I can walk. I can be in my garden and just allow myself to be present. I think that's the biggest. thing about meditation, it's not so much the need to be quiet. I think because people create an idea of what meditation is supposed to look like and supposed to be, that's what creates the struggle with actively seeking meditation. If we allow ourselves just space to be, space to connect, space to be present instead of like, okay, what am I going to do for dinner? Okay, what do I have to do next? what is, how am I making my business like move forward? How am I gonna like, you know, get to the next level on the like high jump or what, you know, you start thinking about these things. Why not just come here? What am I doing right now? What is to the left of me or the right of me, you know, like, oh, I have a money tree right here. That's so pretty. I love that. You know, being in this moment so you can. actually stop and smell the roses. That's what I feel like that phrase is all about is like, you're so present that you actually notice that a rose is right there. So funny, the other day I was going to play pickleball with some friends and we have like a standing Tuesday meetup and we were going to the courts and I'm like walking and talking and I'm moving forward and someone's like, our friend is here. And I was like, what? They're like, yo, there's his whip. takes a scooter everywhere and he had a scooter charging in the office. And it's not a small itty bitty scooter. Like it was a large thing and I completely missed it, but I was so busy focusing on like, okay, so, you what do I have to do? I have to take my shoes off. I have to do this. got it. Like, what am going to do to set up and where am going to put my stuff? And so like, I'm so focused over there. I don't see this large scooter. Like I would have literally tripped over it if my friend hadn't pointed it out. my gosh! Yeah! The presence, like why can't you be here in this moment? And the fact that there's four of us and only one person noticed it is the other thing. Like that shows that all of us were being so out of the moment and thinking and doing other things outside of ourselves, outside of the presence. So bringing it forward to that is what meditation is, is allowing ourselves to be in this present moment right here, right now and slowing down. Yeah, I love that. I've taught meditation. I have created my own guided meditations. Do you do guided meditation? Do you do non-guided meditation? Do you meditate while you're on the toilet? Do you? The answer is yes, I mix and mingle that jingle and beat. Like I do it all. And I just, I feel into what I need. Like there are some days where I just like, I need complete silence. I wanna just be locked in a room, maybe, ooh, my bathtub is probably one of my favorite places, like turn out the lights, light some candles. And you know, sometimes I put on music, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I just need that like, shh, and just allow myself to be with myself. Sometimes I need something that doesn't have words, but like a nice little, binaural beach track on YouTube or I really like lo-fi these days or something a little bit like a tribal vibe I go for shamanic drumming, you know Just something to keep like a rhythm that when I notice my brain start thinking about What am I gonna do after this bath or after this session? I can like clock back in listening to my air conditioner Sometimes is also if I'm complete silence I like bring myself back to the fan wearing on my air conditioner just little things to like tap back into Sometimes I just, like, need, I recognize that I'm monkey mining, what I like to call it, where I'm just like, you know, all over the place. And so having a guided meditation where somebody is speaking really helps me to like follow along so I can quiet down a little bit more so that I can drop in more and so I can be more present. And I just allow whatever it is that's showing up for me that day to show up. I don't make it mean anything. It's not. I'm not a bad person if I can't completely silence myself. I'm not, you know, that doesn't mean that I am no less intuitive or less spiritual because I'm having a human moment and I need to try something new. So it's totally fine to do whatever really just brings you in here right now into this moment. Nice. So meditation is that first step to really bringing intuition in. It's creating the space. It's creating the space so that we can tap into our intuition quicker, faster, easier. Yeah. Okay. So what are some other tools that you have used to allow intuition to speak to you? other tools. I feel like I don't even think of it as like a tool anymore. I just I feel like I'm just like I allow life to life for myself, right? And what I recognize, though, is my intuition speaks more when I answer or respond to it. So in a sense of like, like what do I want to wear today? And I might ask myself a question and then I can like see in my mind's eye, ooh, I want to put that mu mu on or whatever. I'll put like, you know, and I do it rather than like, okay, well, but I'm getting on a podcast. I'm going to be on camera. Is a mu mu really like, rather than like allowing myself to just down spiral and question whatever it shows up. I just take action of whatever I saw or whatever I heard or whatever. And the next thing I know something else, the next step will show up and the next thing will show up. this will show up and then I can take action from there. And, you know, it's funny, because as I was talking, I was like, there's got to be a tool that I actively use. And I followed my intuition of like, I do what life brings to me. And then I saw a journal, right? And so I'm like, wait, I do journal. That's the thing, right? And so I followed the intuitive hit and allowed the next thing to show up. And so with my journal, I noticed I have pretty vivid dreams from time to time. It's not an every single night thing, but I do have dreams. And when I do, I journal about them. And as I'm journaling, that's how I can tell whether like, was it an astral projection? Was this like a premonition? Was this like just a life lesson that I am allowing to integrate into my body? And I can discern just based off of how it feels as I'm writing. And again, that's in your intuition right there, that discernment here. And So I noticed that the more I journaled, the more I wrote about it, the more I just took time with myself, the more I started having dreams. The more I started talking to myself and well, was raised as an only child, so I've always talked to myself. And then we have full on conversations. I've even had my mom be like, who are you talking to? talking to me. Me, myself and I have great conversations, okay, lady? Exactly. I've, I witnessed my daughter doing that all the time. She's an only child. yep. I completely agree. And even if you're not an only child talking to yourself, build clarity. Truly. exactly. Like that's literally where my podcast came from was like, I'm talking to myself. I'm having such a great conversation. People need to hear that. Well, I've been on your podcast twice and every single time I get on your podcast, we have such a good time. And I love that you've started to bring in more of your vocalization into your podcast. Your singing voice is friggin amazing. You're welcome. Okay. We have to tell everybody what your podcast is. Please, please. Yes, so my podcast is called Mama T Energy. You can find it on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, all the major podcasting platforms. I typically release an episode at least once a week. Sometimes it's just me vibing, allowing intuition to guide the conversation. I mean, it's always me allowing intuition to guide the conversation, but sometimes it's just me. Sometimes it is with a beautiful guest sharing their magic and medicine. But if you're into like the woo woo, you're into tarot, sometimes I pull cards, it just really feels divinely guided. So if that's your jam, I invite you to tap in. Yes. I think speaking specifically to the executives and the entrepreneurs in, this particular arena, it's so nice to have someone else tap into your intuition so that you can be guided along the way in your journey in the business. Because when you're, when you're the tree in the forest, you can't see the forest and we need other people to help guide us. It's. It's probably my number one piece of advice when it comes to entrepreneurs and executives. Please get yourself a guide that can help guide you along that journey because there are blind spots, constant blind spots. It doesn't matter how intuitive you are. Trust me, I know. 100%. I'm one of those people where it's like I seek a mentor and I make sure that my mentor has a mentor. Because like you just said, therapists, therapists have therapists. We have blind spots. It's part of the human experience. And I work with a mentor. I literally was sending her a telegram before this call. there are moments that we get to help. ourselves move through this human experience by leaning in. And I like to think of it as like, there are people that are soul contracted to us, like before we incarnate into this life that are meant to help us learn, whether it's a hard lesson that hurts our soul or hurts our hearts a little bit, or it's like, you know, something fun and bubbly in a beautiful experience, we all are learning, right? And so in that... mentorship in that guidance, that's where you can show up and say like, hey, this is what I'm going through. This is what it is. And they can help you process. And the way I like to lead and guide is through asking questions. And it's not so much me giving you the information, because I find when I'm like, yo, this is what's going on and you need to like fix your life, that while it lands for people, it doesn't land in a way that create action. When we speak from a place of pure love and questioning and allowing you to come to that realization for yourself, that awareness brings forward such a more, one, it allows you to trust your intuition more. Two, you get to feel like you've created something. Because the magic and the power isn't me, it's you. It's always the other person that's doing the work. We're just here along the way to... inspire an action and inspire a thought. And that's how I like to see it. And so it's so beautiful to be able to be like, bring out that awareness. And I think that's another part of having intuition. That's really important is that we start bringing forward awareness and our lives when we're like, you know, can say, I'm 30, I'm old, especially from the sports mindset, right? If you hit a certain age point, you're too old to play basketball, you're too old, like an athlete, but that's just a thought, right? And so if you were to start saying, I've noticed, I started saying I was old when I turned 20. Why? Who knows? But I remember on my 20th birthday, I called my mom and I'm like, my gosh, I'm old. I'm like walking, I'm like in college, walking down a street. like, I am in the prime of my, when I look back to this, this is 15 years ago, I look back and I'm like, I was in the prime of my life. I couldn't even legally drink. What was I thinking? But in saying that, like I started saying things like, I'm old, I'm getting older, my knees are gonna do this. Next thing you know, ACL, MCL, meniscus tear, you know, on the rugby field, like all of these things. So I manifesting. the feeling of being old in my body. And now in my 30s, I'm like, you know what? We're not going to joke anymore. We're not going to talk about these kinds of things anymore because that's not the life I want to live. Right? I'm going to allow my intuition to guide me into saying words that are uplifting, words that are on fire so I can notice. And so that awareness comes to when I'm like, yep, 30s, that's when your knees go, wait, let me stop. I'm not even gonna say, we're gonna cancel that. We're gonna retract that statement. You know what? You can move beautifully. And I would say pickleball has been amazing, because I've seen some like 75 year olds out there just like making moves. And I'm like, like they move better than me. is their magic? What is their magic? They never said, they don't say things. They don't call themselves old. They're like, yeah, I'm here to live my life to the fullest. And so that awareness. It allows me to inform my consciousness and then my intuition can allow me to make better steps and better choices moving forward to support the magic and beauty in my body, in my business, and however I show up in the world. love all of that. That's gonna be one of our clips. Hahaha my gosh, we're gonna end on that if you're okay with that. Cause that really sums it up. The whole point of intuition is to make better choices and have better guidance and be guided by our higher selves. Mama T, where can people find you?
